What is Degenerative Disc Disease?

Degenerative Disc Disease Treatment with our Fremont Chiropractor

Man with lower pack pain due to degenerative disc disease

Chronic back and neck pain isn't a condition that just goes away or heals without proper treatment. This is especially true when the root cause can be traced to degenerative disc disease. If it is left unchecked, chronic pain episodes can grow more severe. Continued wear and tear on discs can lead to limited mobility and increased difficulty doing even simple activities.

Causes and Symptoms

Disc degeneration in the back or neck occurs when discs between the vertebrae grow thin, fragment or become herniated through wear and tear. It usually occurs in the cervical or lumbar areas of the spine because these areas are subject to repetitive motion and stress.

Degenerative disc disease can cause the spine to lose flexibility and allow bone spurs to develop on the vertebrae. These bone spurs can pinch off a nerve root, opening the door to recurring chronic pain. Over time, it can cause a person to hurt in multiple ways. They develop weakness, numbness, muscle spasms and experience shooting pains throughout the arms or legs.

Treatment Options

No cure exists for degenerative disc disease. Once discs began to wear away, you can't turn back time and reverse the process. That doesn't mean that living with a constant ache in your back or neck is necessary. Undergoing surgery or popping pills to mitigate it is not your only option or even the best one.

Chiropractic treatment is a smart choice for treating the root causes of disc degeneration and getting your quality of life back. We lead the way at Brainard Chiropractic when it comes to getting patients suffering from degenerative disc disease back on their feet and enjoying life again.

We can create a treatment plan that addresses what your back or neck needs. Our chiropractor, Troy Brainard,  can do adjustments to the problematic area of the spine. We can also do massages to ease every ache, big or small, out of your muscles. Our chiropractic staff can set you up with some targeted exercises to help you restore strength and mobility to affected areas of the back and neck.

We are the chiropractor in Fremont who cares about your health and well-being. Nebraska residents have come to our clinic for years because of our safe and natural approach to treating our patients. We offer comprehensive service that takes into consideration what is best for each patient.
